Ingredients

  • 2 inch ginger
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • 5 cardamoms (elachi)
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 4 cups water
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Directions:

  1. In a mortar pestle take the 2 inch ginger, 1 inch cinnamon, ½ tsp cloves, 5 cardamoms and 1 tsp pepper. Crush into a rough paste and keep aside.
  2. In a saucepan, take 4 cups of water and add in the prepared ginger turmeric spice mix. Also add ½ tsp turmeric and 1 tsp jaggery.
  3. Mix well, boil for 5 minutes or until flavors are absorbed well.
  4. Strain the tea and add 1 tsp lemon juice.
  5. Drink it while it’s hot.

Tips:

  • If you can, try using fresh turmeric and ginger as it helps the body to absorb the nutrients much more easily and it tastes better too.
  • If you have any leftover, you can keep it covered in the fridge for 2 to 3 days and reheat it. It’s always best to drink it straight away though.
